OUR DOCTOR Dr. George S. Mayweather, is son of George Mayweather a retired enlisted serviceman of The U.S. Air Force. His family settled in the Rancho Cordova area in 1974. He is from a family of 5 boys and 3 girls of which he is smack-dab in the middle of the boys and the 4th child overall. He attended W.E. Mitchell Jr. High, and then Cordova Sr. High. He graduated in the Class of 1979 as a Mighty Lancer... Go Big Red! As a teenager he did well in school and worked every summer and most of the time through his high school years. He ran track every year as a Lancer and played for the "Big Red" Football Team his senior year representing one of the most well-known and respected football teams in the nation for many years at a time when a legendary head coach, Ron Lancaster, began making his mark. His events for track and field included running the hurdles and the 4 x 400 relay and his main position in football was a wide receiver, #88. After graduating from high school, he attended The University of California, Davis. He graduated from Davis in 1984 with a B.S. in biopsychology. He spent a year out of school working in the Sacramento area before starting dental school at Howard University in Washington, D.C. in the summer of 1985. Dr. Mayweather worked weekends, while in dental school, as an instructor and tutor in the areas of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Dental Morphology and Oral Histology for other matriculating dental and hygiene students for 3 years. In 1989 he received his D.D.S. and a honorary membership into Omicron Kappa Epsilon Honors Society (Pi Pi Chapter) and was Awarded The Honorable Elijah Muhammed Award for Excellence in Leadership and Scholarship. Upon completion of dental school, he matriculated into postgraduate studies in the field of orthodontics also at Howard University. He obtained his Proficiency Certificate in Orthodontics in 1991 and remained in the D.C. area for one year and then moved back to Sacramento in June of 1992. Dr. Mayweather began his practice in South Sacramento in December of 1992 being the first Black American to ever practice as an orthodontist in the Sacramento area. In May of 1994 he moved his practice to the downtown area and, after approximately 2 years working in the downtown area, he opened his doors in Elk Grove, August of 1996. Dr Mayweather has been a member in good standing of the American Dental Association (ADA), American Association of Orthodontist (AAO), National Dental Association (NDA), Sacramento District Dental Society (SDDS), and the Sacramento Chapter of The National Dental Association (SCNDA) since starting his practice. He served as the president of the SCNDA for two years (2001 through 2002). Dr. Mayweather has performed pro bono care for The National Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped every year since 1995. He also gives his time and expertise in diagnosing and treating pro bono cases for the local Smile for Kids Program, a service performed since 2003.
